Water Leak Detection Johor Bahru: Infrared and Acoustic Pipe Leak Detection

RumahPro does water leak detection in Johor Bahru, tracing leaks on the private water pipes inside your home with an infrared (thermal) scanner and acoustic detection, from JB City Centre and Skudai to Iskandar Puteri, Tebrau and Pasir Gudang. WhatsApp or call 010-204 7500 and you get a written fixed quote before any work starts. Leak detection is one of the jobs on our plumber Johor Bahru page, and the team that finds the leak also repairs the pipe.

Water leaking from ceiling or wall, a joint that keeps leaking after it was patched, or water pressure that has dropped over the years: we trace the source first, then open the wall, floor or ceiling where the leak is, instead of hacking along the pipe to look for it.

Pipe leak detection in JB: how the infrared scanner and acoustic detection work

We use two methods for pipe leak detection in JB, and both work from the surface:

In JB's older shophouse-era buildings the supply pipes are often set into the plaster, and a leak can run well past the wet patch. Tracing first means you pay to open one spot, not to hack along the wall looking for the pipe.

Water leaking from ceiling: where the water really comes from

When water comes through a ceiling and the roof above it is intact, it usually comes from one of three places:

The stain marks where the water shows, not always where it enters, so we carry out a systematic diagnosis to identify the true source before opening any ceiling. Water that has been moving through a building for months has usually done more damage than the stain suggests, and a sealant put over the wet spot without finding where the water enters fails: the water finds a new path and the stain comes back.

Water dripping from the aircond rather than the ceiling itself is a different job. Aircond drain-line leaks are among the most frequent plumbing calls we take in JB, and among the cheapest to put right when the drain, not the unit, is at fault; that work is on our aircond repair Johor Bahru page.

Leaking pipes in older JB homes

Water spraying out of a leaking joint on a pipe

JB City and Skudai houses built between the 1970s and the 1990s often still carry galvanised supply pipes, and those pipes are near the end of their life. Galvanised steel corrodes from the inside: the bore narrows a little every year, the water picks up colour, and eventually pinhole leaks open and spread inside the wall cavity before anyone sees them.

Three signs point to failing galvanised pipe:

Low pressure can also come from a faulty pressure regulator or from the Ranhill SAJ supply, so we find the cause first; if a partial replacement or a regulator fix is enough, that is what we quote, not a full re-pipe.

How much does water leak detection cost in Johor Bahru?

The cost of water leak detection in Johor Bahru is set in a written fixed quote for your job before any work starts: tell us where the water is showing and which area you are in. The quote breaks the cost down into labour, materials and any additional items, work starts only once you have approved it in writing, and what we quote is what you pay. The repair is priced the same way once the source is found, so you pay to open the wall where the leak is, not for hacking along the pipe to look for it.

If the trace shows that the pipes for a bathroom need replacing, our JB estimate for pipe replacement is RM 600 to RM 1,500 per bathroom, confirmed in the written fixed quote before work begins.

Who is responsible for water leakage: your pipes or the water main?

A leak on the private pipes inside your property, in the walls, ceilings, bathroom or kitchen, is a private repair, and that is the leak RumahPro traces and repairs. A burst or leak on a pipe in a public area, or a problem with the water supply itself, is reported to Ranhill SAJ, the water supplier in Johor, and is not a private repair we take on. Not sure which one you have? Tell us on WhatsApp where the water is showing.

Water leak detection Johor Bahru FAQ

Can plumbers detect water leaks?

Yes. At RumahPro leak detection is plumbing work: we trace the leak with an infrared (thermal) scanner and acoustic detection, and the same team repairs the pipe once the source is found.

Can you find a leak without hacking the wall?

Yes, the leak is found without hacking: the infrared scanner and acoustic detection both work from the surface, so nothing is opened to find it. To repair the pipe we still have to reach it, so the wall, floor or ceiling is opened at the spot the trace points to, instead of being hacked open along the pipe.

My downstairs neighbour says water is coming from my bathroom. What should I do?

Where you can, stop using that bathroom, then WhatsApp or call 010-204 7500 for an urgent assessment. Leakage into the unit below can turn into a formal complaint through building management, and a written diagnosis and repair scope shows management that the problem is being dealt with.

How can I check for a water leak at home?

Use the meter check from Ranhill SAJ, the company that supplies treated water across Johor: before going to bed, read your water meter while no one in the house is using water, then read it again the next morning before anyone uses any. If the two readings differ, water is flowing somewhere even though none is being used. Ranhill SAJ also names a leak in your internal plumbing, or an overflowing roof tank, as possible causes of a water bill that goes up unexpectedly. If the meter moved and you cannot see where the water is going, WhatsApp or call 010-204 7500 with your area.
