Aircond gas refill: partial top up or full recharge?
What people call a gas refill is one of two jobs, priced differently:
- Partial top up: refrigerant is added to a system that still holds most of its charge, which is why it is the cheaper job.
- Full evacuation and recharge: what is left is removed, the system is vacuumed to pull out moisture and air, and a fresh charge is weighed in to the manufacturer's spec. This is the correct job after a leak repair.
So if we repair a leak, the gas on your bill is the full evacuation and recharge, not the partial top up. Either way, you have the price before any gas goes in.
Why does an aircond run low on gas?
An aircond does not use up gas the way an engine uses petrol. The refrigerant circulates in a sealed loop, so a low charge means gas has escaped, and the only question is where. A top up without a leak test means paying for the same gas again within months.
What happens on a gas call:
- We pressure-test the system.
- We find where the gas is going and show you.
- You get the leak repair and the recharge as two separate written prices, so you can see what you are paying for, and you decide.

- The unit runs, but the room never gets properly cold.
- Ice forms on the copper pipes or on the indoor coil (restricted airflow can do this too).
- The outdoor unit runs constantly and the room never reaches temperature.
- Cooling faded gradually over months instead of failing overnight.

Can you still top up R22 gas in Malaysia?
Yes. We will not refuse to recharge an R22 system. R22 is being phased out under the Montreal Protocol and supply in Malaysia is tightening, which is why the R22 prices are the highest in our table. Still running an R22 unit? Plan to replace it within one to three years rather than pay a rising price to refill a leaking loop.
How much is an aircond gas check in JB?
On its own, a gas check is the RM 79 diagnosis: we pressure-test the unit, find the fault and show you, and the RM 79 comes off the bill if you go ahead.
