Demolition & Hacking

We strip the bathroom back to the structural walls and floor. Old tiles are hacked off, existing plumbing fittings are removed, and the substrate is assessed for cracks, uneven surfaces, and moisture damage before any new work begins. We do not tile over problems. We fix the substrate first.

Waterproofing

Waterproofing is applied to the floor and walls (minimum 300mm above floor level, higher in shower areas) before any tiles are laid. We use membrane-type waterproofing products appropriate for the substrate condition and apply them to the correct thickness with full floor and wall coverage.

The waterproofing membrane is tested with a 24-hour water retention test before tiling begins. This is our standard process on every bathroom renovation.

Floor Screeding & Levelling

Old bathroom floors are often uneven, have low spots that pool water, or have incorrect falls towards the floor drain. We re-screed the floor with the correct gradient — the floor should drain completely within a short time of water contact, not pool in corners.

Wall & Floor Tiling

We lay tiles using the correct adhesive for the substrate and tile type, grout the joints with epoxy grout in wet areas (which lasts significantly longer than cement grout), and seal all grout lines in wet areas. We advise on tile selection honestly — large-format tiles look better but require more careful floor preparation.
